Cool shop in Tokyo: Arton in Shibuya

Went to Shibuya for the first time last week and actually went two times in two days! I love this place, great to do some international shopping (huge Forever 21 and H&M), get lost, eat food, cross the streets at the huge Shibuya crossing (you've seen it in Lost in Translation) and hang out.

Me and Alyssa were kind of lost trying to find H&M when we accidentally found this shop that we couldn't resist because of all the bright colors!

The front of Arton. Nice tee meet you!

We went inside and the shop was divided into an art gallery and then the T-shirt shop.

Really loved this wall.

We went inside the shop and were handed an iPad right away which had their catalogue.
Endless of cool designs for shirts. Then you chose from different fits and colors what kind of tee, sweater, hoodie, tank you you wanted.

Alyssa having a blast.

Yes I love mirror photos. Though this one is kind of awkward...haha!

Endless opportunities.

Finally, I chose my print. I tried to resist all the cuteness and got a very simple triangle that caught my eye right away. I thought it would be nice on a gray tank top.
(Notice the panda)

My tee being made.

Cute decorations.

And finally...this is the outcome. Love it!

(Excuse my dirty dorm mirror!)

Japanese food

....definitely has it's ups and downs!

These are my absolute favorite things at the moment:

Gyoza.

You can have them boiled or fried, they're filled with different ingredients and you get them with dipping sauce to dip in. Most of the time I don't know what the filling actually is made from but I've never had bad gyozas - not yet at least! I've also started to buy them and cook at home...super easy and cheap.

Pancake flavored cornflakes.

I kind of bought them as a joke because I thought it was so cute - and I'm not that big fan of cornflakes....but whoah! They're so addictive! I've had 2 bowls today and just want more.
And to make it better I really like the japanese soy milk. I had kind of fallen out of love with soy milk in general but because I can't handle regular milk  I decided to give the Japanese soy milk a chance. And I was happily surprised!
The good soy milk.

Typhoon day!

Lots and lots of rain and wind and I get happy because finally its relevant to drink hot coffee here! I've been feeling kind of stupid drinking hot coffee when it's been extremely hot outside but I just can't stand the ice coffee thing.

This is my favorite cup that I got really cheap at a thrift store in the neighborhood.

So yesterday it started raining heavily because of a typhoon coming in Japan and it only got worse today.  Thank god for umbrellas! I actually quite like the vision of thousands of umbrellas moving everywhere. And many of them really cute. I even saw a business man with a pink one.

School got cancelled after 2 classes because of the typhoon, and it was actually our first day of school! Quite an easy start!

Pretty new things!

My awesome new purse. I wish I could let you touch it.

My eagle necklace that was actually broken, just saw it when I came home. Will try to fix it though.

I could stab someone with this.

I seem to have a thing for triangles.

I <3 my new fox ring.

Top from a super awesome design shop.

Puretty colors.

My newest nail polish along with a silver one.

The basics

I kind of have been having the same questions from many people so I decided to share this with you all :)

What I'm doing
I'm an exchange student in J.F. Oberlin University. My major in the University of Iceland is Japanese and Japanese culture so I decided to take my final year here to get a better grip of all this that I'm learning. I also really wanted to try to live abroad and have been desperately wanting to go to Japan for a long time. I also want to travel around during my stay here, mainly in Japan but maybe in other countries in Asia as well.

Where I'm living
I'm living in Fuchinobe. That's real close to Machida which is small city in the great Tokyo! I live on a international students dorm that was built approximately a year ago, so everything is really new and nice.
I live alone in the room and I have my own bathroom with shower, cooking facilities with a fridge and then  balcony. I really feel at home at the dorm although it's my first time of living on a dorm and not sharing apartment with anybody.

I will try to update this more often although it really feels as time is flying so fast while I'm here!

HELLO JAPAN!

Yep, I'm finally heeeere!

I've been here for around 10 days now. It's kind of crazy and I still have to get used to a lot of things. My japanese is still very rusty from not studying at all this summer but I feel that I learn something new every day. School starts next  week and I am so excited!

I've also been shopping a little bit and it's so unbelievable  how they manage to make EVERY SINGLE THING so cute! For example, I needed stuff to clean my room with - and even those things were cute! But it makes sense to me... why make an ugly sponge when you can make a cute one?

I really have to buy a camera soon so I can share this adventure with the world!

But I'm off now to get myself some coffee (me, the coffee addict is having a hard time in the land of tea and ice coffee) and japanese keeki!
